Amanda and I met at one of my part-time jobs and became instant friends. You know how sometimes you just click with people? That’s how it was for us. When I met Amanda, she and her then fiancé Carlos were maintaining a long distance relationship. She was working in Dallas and he was in Oklahoma. In fact, he’s an Oklahoma University Sooner and she’s a Texas Tech Raider so their wedding was a long awaited union!
Carlos and Amanda actually met in Russia while working with Campus Crusade
and incorporated several Russian themes to into their wedding decor to remind everyone of the significance of how they fell in love! They used the children’s book, Eloise in Moscow
, as their sign in book and gave Russian candy as party favors for their guests.
The main ballroom of The Grand Hotel
in adorable old Downtown McKinney
acted as both the ceremony and reception. If you are from the DFW area you MUST visit this area. The streets are lined with quaint furniture, clothing and antique boutiques, hole-in-the-wall restaurants and even an old fashioned candy parlor!
Amanda’s wedding dress is from StarDust Celebrations
which holds a special place in my heart because it is where I found my wedding dress! I loved the style of her dress and the added brooch was a perfect touch don’t you think?
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed drinks and hors d’oeuvres downstairs while we flipped the room and set up my favorite detail of the wedding: the dessert bar. I solicited the help of our friends to set up one of the most enticing displays of sweets you have ever seen, courtesy of Romano’s Bakery.
The reception was a family style seated dinner. This was the first family style dinner I had ever seen at a wedding and it was perfect! Everyone seemed to enjoy being able to pick what went on their plate without having to wait in line. We also set up a photo booth for guests to enjoy during dinner and dancing.
Carlos and Amanda surprised their guests with a choreographed dance at the reception. It was fabulous!
